Many men have the notion that yoga is just stretching and breathing. They often suffer from overall stiffness with tightness particularly in the hips, hamstrings and shoulders, which can easily lead to injury, weakness and a general feeling of inflexibility. Yoga is a full-body workout that creates BOTH strength and flexibility. It cannot be compared to weight lifting or any particular sport you play, as the benefits and difficulties associated are completely different but as equally if not more essential for an overall wellness. Yoga based activity will compliment your current fitness goals and the resulting benefits will enhance your total physical performance.
There's a serious component of strength, which is required to hold the poses still and steady, breathing deeply, with peaceful expression of the face. Within a few minutes you'll be amazed how hard just "stretching and breathing" can be, but most importantly realise how good it feels.
